Biography
Born and raised in southern Vermont, Megroz graduated from college without a plan. On a whim, he enrolled in a graduate journalism program at Emerson College in Boston. “I learned pretty quickly that it was a good fit,” says Megroz. “One of my first assignments in grad school was looking into a bizarre medical disorder, and I loved the research and writing process.” That led to an internship at Outside magazine in Santa Fe, New Mexico. “When the six-month internship ended, I was hired on as a researcher and just kept working my way up,” he says. After three years at Outside, Megroz spent another three years at Men’s Journal in New York City as a senior associate editor. In 2010, he left office life to freelance full-time, and now works on a variety of stories for several outlets, as well as copywriting for companies, large and small. “I like to think that I’m able to take on any type of writing or editing work,” says Megroz. “I’ve written big investigative stories for Wired and Outside, and I’ve written copy for businesses like Amazon and Toyota.”

Testimonial
I’ve worked with Gordy Megroz for years, mainly as an Outside editor fielding his contributions to the print magazine and website. Gordy is an all-around pro who combines superior reporting and writing ability with a range of outdoor skills that allow him to function capably in any situation. For these and other reasons, including his character, he’s an all-star who I’m always eager to collaborate with.

Hero Image
Gordy grew up ski racing and his aptitude on skis has allowed him to tackle stories others can’t. He chased Mikaela Shiffrin around the slopes while writing a profile of her for Outside, spent a week camping on a glacier in Denali National Park while climbing and skiing the surrounding peaks for Backpacker, and competed in one of the world’s most dangerous alpine races for Skiing. “But I’m just as comfortable sitting down to an interview with a businessman or politician,” he says.
Hero Image
Megroz is writing a book proposal that’s based on a parenting story he wrote for Outside. He’s also exploring writing for television and film and working with a production company to develop movie and television ideas.
