Insider Knowledge:

“When you get told ‘no,’ you have to figure out another way to get ‘yes,’” says Casey. She says that the road toward letting women ride at the Red Bull Rampage was a lot like a political campaign. “I tried opening the conversation far and wide to people in the industry,” she says. “I basically tried to build an army of supporters.” At times, she says, it felt like she was banging her head against a wall. “You need to push just enough,” she says. “Then you need to take a step back and let the riding speak for itself.” Casey says that, in the end, it was a combination of campaigning and talent that got Rampage organizers to change their minds. “They saw how well women ride this terrain and couldn’t say no.”

Quick Tip:

“Make sure you check your ‘message requests’ on social media,” says Casey. “Sometimes people you’re not connected with will send you messages and, if you’re not connected with them, those messages will be filtered. Sometimes those people can end up being your biggest supporters.”
