Jon Riley is the founder of Out In Space Studios, a full-service production company based in Jackson Hole, WY. An award-winning Director of Photography (DP), cinematographer, and specialty camera operator, he has spent over a decade working on large-scale projects for clients like HBO, Red Bull, Bvlgari, Ford, The North Face and Outside TV.

With multiple Emmy-nominated projects for HBO, Jon has taken on key roles where technical precision meets story-driven logistics. He has worked extensively with complex camera systems; flying drones in the mountains, building cable cams in the woods, lighting sets to capture compelling interviews and operating a GSS gimbal system that attaches to helicopters, boats, cars and off-road vehicles.

Jon’s skillset extends beyond the technical aspects of cinematography, enabling him to connect authentically with people in documentary settings. In projects like Mountains Not For Profit, he stepped into the role of a story director in addition to working as a DP, building trust with subjects to capture their journeys in a way that felt genuine and resonated deeply with audiences.

Out in Space Studios is a reflection of his commitment to push the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. His team provides a broad scope of services, including:

– Concept development
– End to end media production
– Aerial Cinematography
– Second Unit Production
– Stock Footage Sales & Equipment Rental

“The first time Jon and I worked together, he was able to find two helicopters, pilots and guides during a prime time window in Alaska… with roughly 5 days of lead time. For anyone who isn’t familiar with ski films, that’s about as close to working a miracle as you can get.

In the years since, we’ve continued to work together and I can confidently say he is one of the most dialed and versatile DP’s I know. He has a massive knowledge base about every part of filmmaking and the operator skill set to match. In rapidly changing situations, he’s calm and has the ability to re-evaluate execution and pivot quickly.”
