Cynthia Hatfield has been captivated by the art of storytelling through tape since she was 12, creating films with friends in Austin, Texas, exploring wild spaces, and popping in and out of any local watering hole she could find. Now based in Los Angeles, she has turned her passion into a thriving career that spans documentary, narrative, commercial, and underwater filmmaking. With a keen visual eye and a deep understanding and study of editing, lighting, and design, Cynthia expertly sets the scene and captures spaces in ways that convey their essence.

Her work is fueled by a commitment to addressing climate and environmental issues, as well as class, race, and social injustices. Cynthia views video and film as powerful platforms for motivating change and fostering collective action. Her collaboration with The Oxygen Project, a non-profit focused on accelerating climate action, exemplifies her dedication to this mission. “Editing was the first step that took me from making home videos with my friends, to embarking on a professional storytelling career. Transitioning on-set, I worked my way up through lighting department, and soon after transitioned into Camera & Underwater Oping, where I finally felt most connected to this craft. The integration of these diverse skills, into the way I operate cameras, has cultivated a distinctive style, characterized by a heightened awareness of my surroundings, angles, and the optimal visual approach to capture a story for the edit.”
