Biography
Steph is a professional rock climber, wingsuiter, BASE jumper and skydiver with over two decades of production experience. She was the second woman to free climb El Cap in a day, and the first person to free solo and BASE jump Castleton Tower. Her climbing resume includes first ascents of big walls and alpine routes around the world, as well as cutting edge free solos in Yosemite, Colorado and Utah.
Steph represents several companies in the outdoor industry, and works with them on brand strategy, storytelling, product development and athlete management. She also coordinates and runs her own climbing events in Moab, Utah, and works as a keynote speaker. She’s written two memoirs, High Infatuation and Learning to Fly. On horizontal terrain, Steph is a highly experienced resource for outdoor brands, management teams and event planners.
Steph became a pro climber in the 90s, when part of the job meant documenting climbing expeditions through photography and writing, working with magazine and photo editors, and public speaking. Throughout the early 2000s, she cut her teeth in production work as she made and documented groundbreaking ascents in Yosemite, the Rocky Mountains and the Utah desert–on most of her early shoots, Steph put together the crews, rigged lines for the camera teams and directed the shots, as well as performing the actual climbing. As her style of adventure grew, her stuntwork expanded to include BASE jumping and skydiving.
Steph is an ideal resource for production teams in need of high angle footage, in front of or behind the camera. She is equally at home working with a 2 person documentary team or a 50 person union crew and she can take on a diversity of roles from doing onscreen stunts, interviews and voiceovers to working behind the cameras. Specialties include rock climbing, rappelling, BASE jumping, wingsuit BASE and skydiving stunts, rigging, safety, stunt coordination, and air-to-air camera, aircraft coordination and logistics.
Because Steph’s daily activities include rock climbing and wingsuit BASE jumping, she is extremely comfortable with working under pressure in high-risk environments. The energy can become intense when working at the edge of a cliff, hanging on a wall or out of a helicopter, or timing a shot with a drone. Steph brings an attitude of calm professionalism to the set, and will get the shot done with no compromises on safety for any of the team.
