Why Beth

Beth spent her formative years reading Dickens in a treehouse and negotiating with teachers to let her catch the ski bus after third period. Decades later, little has changed. Now a seasoned mountain athlete with skills, summits, and descents under her belt, Beth relishes any chance to get outside—and to make the outdoor world more inclusive and welcoming. Beth loves telling tales of adventure and discovery, and finds writing a powerful way to give voice to people, causes, and places. She’s found inspiration (and the occasional stomach bug) traveling to locales she’s curious about, from the Ecuadorian Andes to the jungles of Nicaragua to the glaciers of Switzerland.

Specialized Skills

In winter at dawn, Beth gets in a ski tour every skiable morning. In summer, the outing turns to a run or hike. Back at her desk, from long-form essays and adventure stories to lyrical prose, Beth is a writer without limitation. Complementing her writing chops is her sharp editor’s eye.

Beth’s a mentor to people who are new to touring, new to ski mountaineering, new to avalanche safety, or new to the Wasatch mountains. She’s a growth-minded writer who inspires and guides those curious about the natural world.

What's Next

While Beth is nearing the finish line on her longtime Wasatch ski mountaineering tick list, which includes, as she puts it, “a lot of ridiculous things,” she’s adding new ideas as fast as she’s checking things off. It’ll take a lifetime to learn every nook and face of her home range … and she likes it that way.
